Ancient shan tuyet tea trees in Sung Do commune, Van Chan district of Yen Bai province have been recognised as Vietnam’s heritage trees (Photo: VNA)Yen Bai (VNA) – Ancient shantuyet tea trees in Sung Do commune, Van Chan district of the northernmountainous province of Yen Bai have been recognised as Vietnam’s heritagetrees by the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment(VACNE).
A ceremony to receive the recognition washeld in the locality on September 23.
Sung Do tea complex is now home to over 100ancient shan tuyet tea trees. The trees are grown in an area of 70 ha at analtitude of over 1,600m on Hoang Lien Son mountain range in the northernregion.
The favourable geography, terrain andweather conditions have been the key to the development of tea trees whichproduce the shan tuyet variety.
The trees, along with natural landscape andcultural traits of the Mong ethnic people, are hoped to bolster ecological andexploratory tourism in Sung Do commune in the coming time, thus opening up anew development direction for locals.
At the ceremony, VACNE Vice President Prof.Dr. Dang Huy Huynh voiced his hope that local agencies will spare no efforts toconserve the local tea tree area and enhance communications to raise publicawareness of the trees’ significance and value.
On the occasion, relief aid were handedover to 20 disadvantaged families and students in the locality./.
