Hanoi (VNA) – ChileanAmbassador Jaime Chomali, on behalf of ambassadors of member countries of thePacific Alliance (PA), has expressed his deep sympathies over human andproperty losses caused by floods in Vietnam’s central region.
Ambassadors of Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru to Vietnam on October 20 sentnecessities, including dried food and drinking water, to the Vietnam Red CrossSociety, to support the Vietnamese flood victims.
The Chilean Ambassador expressed his hope that the aid will help to ease theplight of the residents.
Dao Ngoc Trieu, Chairman of the Hanoi Red Cross Society, thanked the gooddeeds, and affirmed that through the Red Cross Society, the donations will behanded over to the affected people.
Trieu said he hopes there will be more foreign representative offices andinternational organisations joining hands with the Vietnam Red Cross Society innatural disaster response efforts.
The ambassadors expressed their belief that the Vietnamese Government andpeople will promptly deal with flood consequences and help local residents soonresume their daily lives.
According to a report from the Office of the Central Steering Committee forNatural Disaster Prevention and Control, as of 7am on October 21, flooding thatbegan on October 6 had killed 111 people and left 22 missing. Some 371 ha ofrice paddies have been submerged, 7,126 ha of crops damaged, and over 700,000heads of cattle and poultry killed or swept away./.
