Algiers (VNA) – Algeria's prestigious newspapers and websites such as La PatrieNews and Francophonie Actualités have run stories recalling Vietnam’s landmarkAugust Revolution on the occasion of the event’s 76th anniversary(August 19, 1945 – 2021).

The articles highlighted the leadership role of theCommunist Party of Vietnam (CPV), headed by President Ho Chi Minh, in thevictory of the August Revolution more than seven decades ago, saying the triumphmarked a significant milestone in Vietnam’s history and other liberationmovements all around the world to gain independence from colonists andimperialists.

Vietnam was a small feudal country which had long livedunder Chinese domination, and later the occupation of French colonists and Japanese fascists. Allthese struggles had made Vietnamese people stronger and led them intorevolutionary path, according to the articles.

The Vietnamese people defeated the French colonists under thewise leadership of the CPV and great strategist President Ho Chi Minh,establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam in 1945.

Unfortunately, the euphoria of the victory wasshort-lived as the French colonists restored control over the country. Despite manyhardships, the Vietnamese people once again stood up bravely against the Frenchforces and won the decisive victory at the Battle of Dien Bien Phu under thecommand of great military strategist General Vo Nguyen Giap./.
