AIPA-38 backs ASEAN community building efforts

Manila (VNA) – The ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) has committedto boosting its engagements with ASEAN for the development of a strong ASEANCommunity.

Thecommitment was made by Pantaleon Alvarez, Speaker of the Philippine House ofRepresentatives and current AIPA President, in his speech concluding the 38thAIPA General Assembly (AIPA-38), which ran in the Philippines from September 16to 19.

PantaleonAlvarez said the AIPA-38 was a success thanks to effective contributions ofparticipants, adding that the general assembly passed 21 resolutions onsubjects significant to the ASEAN Community.

Heurged member parliaments to realise these resolutions through law-making processand recommended AIPA work closely with the ASEAN member states in overcomingnew challenges arising on their path towards the ASEAN Community Vision 2025.

Hesaid despite differences, solidarity and consensus among participatingdelegates reflect a strong and growing AIPA.

Theending session saw the post of AIPA President transferred to Singapore, whichwill host the next AIPA General Assembly from September 3 to 7 in 2018.-VNA
