AIIB, Malaysia to support ASEAN infrastructure development

Hanoi (VNA) – The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) willcoordinate with Malaysia to support infrastructure development in the ASEANregion, said the bank's president Jin Liqun on February 6.

According toXinhua News Agency, Jin made the statement while in Malaysia to attend the WorldCapital Market Symposium.

Speaking tothe media on the sidelines of the event, he said potential projects in theregion include transportation, power generation transmission, seaports andairports.

Jin alsohighlighted Malaysia’s significant progress in infrastructure development inthe past decade, with a belief that the country will continue to play a keyrole in development and working with the bank.

Commentingon relations with the existing international financial institutions - the WorldBank and the Asian Development Bank, Jin reassured the AIIB is complementaryinstead of competition.

He said thebank is focusing on high quality infrastructure projects, which are financiallystable and have local people support.

Within twoyears of operation, the AIIB has successfully funded 22 projects with its loansamounting to 4.2 billion USD. -VNA
