According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the total export turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products in the first seven months of 2022 reached 32.3 billion USD, a year-on-year increase of 12.2 percent. The import turnover is estimated at over 26 billion USD. Therefore, the export surplus of these products in January-July was 6.3 billion USD, up nearly two times over the same period last year.

The United States continued to be the largest importer of Vietnamese agro-forestry-fishery products for the seven-month period, accounting for 26.8 percent to reach almost 8.7 billion USD. China came second with a total export value of over 5.7 billion USD, accounting for 17.8 percent of the market share. Japan came third with over 2.3 billion USD, accounting for 7.2 percent, followed by the Republic of Korea with over 1.5 billion USD, accounting for 4.7 percent.

By region, Asia is the largest importer of Vietnamese products with 42.4 percent, followed by the Americas 29.3 percent, Europe 11.9 percent, Oceania 1.7 percent, and Africa 1.6 percent.

In January-July, four products and groups of products saw an export value surpassing 2 billion USD, including: coffee, rice, shrimp and wood products.

Export of main agricultural products reached 13.3 billion USD, up 8.4 percent; main forest products over 10.4 billion USD, up 1.3 percent; seafood nearly 6.7 billion USD, up 34.2 percent; and production input nearly 1.7 billion USD, up 66.7 percent. Only livestock exports decreased by 11.6 percent, estimated at 225.6 million USD.

Many products posted higher export value compared to the same period last year such as coffee with over 2.6 billion USD, up 46.2 percent; shrimp over 2.7 billion USD, up 26.2 percent; pangasius about 1.6 billion USD, up 83.6 percent; rubber over 1.6 billion USD, up 7 percent; rice over USD 2 billion, up 9 percent; pepper about 661 million USD, up 11.7 percent; cassava and cassava products 904 million USD, up 32.1 percent.

In particular, the export value of all kinds of fertilizers reached 848 million USD, up 3.2 times against the same period last year.

However, some items saw year-on-year declines, such as vegetables and fruits at 1.9 billion USD, down 16.1 percent; cashew nuts nearly 1.8 billion USD, down 10.4 percent; livestock products 225.6 million USD, down 11.6 percent; wood products down 6.9 percent.

The import turnover of agro-forestry-fishery products in the seven months was estimated at over 26 billion USD, up 1.6 percent over the same period in 2021. Imports of key aquatic products, forest products and production input groups increased while imports of main agricultural products and livestock products decreased.

Argentina, China and the United States are the three largest suppliers of agro-forestry-fishery products to Vietnam over the past seven months.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it is working with Vietnamese agencies at home and abroad to expand export markets for Vietnamese agro-forestry-aquatic products. They are doing this while effectively implementing bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements that Vietnam has signed such as the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).

The ministry also pledged to continue supporting farmers and businesses to improve quality of their products to meet export requirements of foreign markets, especially making inroad into choosy markets such as the United States, Japan, and Europe./.
