The ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Retreat (ADMM Retreat) and the third ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting Plus (ADMM+) are taking place in Kuala Lumpur from November 2-5 to increase regional trust.
On November 2, the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM) was held in preparation for the ADMM Retreat and ADMM+, the last meetings of the ADMM and relevant events that Malaysia has organised as Chair of ADMM in 2015.
The ADMM Retreat is slated for November 3 with the participation of defence ministers from 10 ASEAN member countries to exchange information and viewpoints on security and defence issues that affect ASEAN and other regions.
The ADMM+ is set to take place on November 4 with the attendance of defence ministers from ASEAN member states and partners from Australia, China, Japan, the Republic of Korea, India, New Zealand, Russia and the US.
In addition to sharing opinions on strategic issues, the conference will discuss new developments in defence cooperation within the ADMM+ framework, focusing on marine security, humanitarian support and disaster aid relief, medical military, peackeeping activities, anti-terrorism and humanitarian mine action.
Last March, Malaysia hosted the 9th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM) in Langkawi, Kedah state.
Laos will become Chair of ASEAN, and thereby the ADMM, next year.-VNA
