Hanoi (VNA) - The Asian Development Bank has approved a 100-million-USD loan to upgrade a 66.4 km section of road connecting the towns of Eindu and Kawkareik in Myanmar’s Kayin state, the missing section of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) East-West Corridor.

The completion of the route will help connect Vietnam ’s central Da Nang city and Myanmar ’s two economic hubs: Mawlamyina and Yangon.

According to James Leather, Principal Transport Specialist in ADB’s Southeast Asia Department, upgrading this stretch of the road will complete improvements to the Myanmar sections of the GMS East West-Corridor.

This will open up new economic opportunities for Myanmar and its state and support the country’s growth, he said.

The project is expected to be completed by September 2019.
