Binh Duong (VNA) – A delegation from the AsianDevelopment Bank (ADB) had a working session with the People’s Committee of BinhDuong on February 22 to discuss cooperation in investing in environmentalprojects in the southern province.
At the meeting, Vijay Padmanabhan, Director of the ADB Urban Development and Water Division, hailed the determinationof Binh Duong leaders in implementing water-related projects.
The ADB hopes to work withBinh Duong to issue a timely agreement regarding the 25-million-USD Nam BinhDuong water drainage project, he said, adding that the bank also wishes tocollaborate with the province to build the Binh Duong smart city in the future.
Dang Minh Hung, Vice Chairmanof the Binh Duong People’s Committee, said that in 2018, Binh Duong’s totalGRDP grew by about 9.01 percent, higher than the set target of 8.5 percent.
The per capita GRDP reached130.8 million VND (5,630 USD), he said, adding that Binh Duong attracted nearly3,500 foreign-invested projects with a total registered capital of more than 31billion USD, ranking third in 63 localities nationwide in the field after HCMCity and Hanoi.
The province is working tobecome a first-grade urban area in 2020. Hung said that along with economicdevelopment, the province has paid great attention to settling social problems,especially water supply and irrigation.
Currently, Binh Duong has beenfocusing on treating concentrated wastewater in Thu Dau Mot city and parts ofDi An and Thuan An towns.
Therefore, the province is inneed of investment and cooperation to synchronise its wastewater treatmentsystems.
Over the years, the ADB hassupported Binh Duong in the field and recognised the efficiency of jointprojects, he noted, showing his hope that the bank will continue launching moreprojects in Binh Duong, including the Nam Binh Duong project.
Following the workingsession, the ADB working group met with the Binh Duong Water-Environment JSC todiscuss issues related to cooperation in the Nam Binh Duong wastewatertreatment project. –VNA
