Hanoi (VNA) – TheVietnam National Union of Building Workers launched an action month on laboursafety and hygiene in Hanoi on May 18 with an aim to preventing and controllingrisky factors at workplace to minimise occupational accidents and illness inconstruction.
Addressing thelaunching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Construction Le Quang Hung said thatgreat attention has been paid to protecting labour safety and hygiene at constructionsite where tens of dozens of labourers work, thus minimising labour accidentsand illness.
Statistics of theMinistry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, labour accidents reduced inthe 2015-2017 period. In 2016, accident cases in construction accounted for23.8 percent of total labour accidents of the whole country, with deaths makingup 24.5 percent. In 2017, the figures dropped to 20.8 percent and 19.7 percentrespectively.
However, according toHung, occupational accidents in construction has still made up a highproportion compared to other sectors, and construction activities have stillseen high risk of accidents.
He stressed that labouraccidents cause serious and long-term consequences for the victims as well astheir family and society.
Meanwhile, Cao TungLam, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Phuc Hung Holdings Company, saidthat as part of efforts to prevent labour accidents and accident risks, lastyear, the firm invested big in developing technical solutions and safetymeasures to improve production environment.
During the month, theconstruction sector will strengthen information and communications on the Partyand State’s policies and law as well as guiding documents related to laboursafety and hygiene in construction.
At the same time, thesector will build and implement a system of regulations, procedures, measuresand plans on safety management in construction activities, while ensuringeffectiveness of training in labour safety and hygiene.
At the ceremony, DeputyMinister Hung called on workers and enterprises to fully implement theirobligations in the field.-VNA
