Hanoi (VNA) - An action month on environmentalprotection will be launched in June under the theme “Resolving pollution causedby plastic and nylon” as part of activities to mark World Environment Day onJune 5.
The launch ceremony will be organised by the Ministry ofNatural Resources and Environment (MONRE) on June 4 in the central province ofBinh Dinh.
The action month will have three focuses,including conducting measures to protect natural resources and the environment,preventing natural calamity and adapting to climate change, and treating wastewith a focus on plastics.
Ministries, provinces and cities, organisationsand enterprises across the country will aim to exploit and use water resourceseffectively, especially inter-national water resources such as the MekongRiver. They will strictly obey regulations related to forest protection and maintainingbiodiversity.
They will collect and treat plastic waste and strictly punishviolators based on Decree 38 issued in 2015 and Circular 36 issued in 2015 bythe MONRE.
From now until the end of July, all provinces andcities across the country will conduct a series of actions to respond to themonth, including a campaign urging people to reject single-use plasticmaterials and a drive to clean up channels and ponds. Training courses onenvironmental protection will be organised. All of the activities aim atencouraging people to break the habit of using plastic products and nylon bagsand to stop littering.
Ministries will give instructions to enterprisesto check all their risks related to environmental pollution, and set up plansfor improving environmental problems in manufacturing. Specialised teams onenvironmental protection should be set up to implement a process for collectingand treating waste.-VNA
