Hanoi (VNA) – About 7,200 members of the Ho Chi Minh CommunistYouth Union and volunteers will be serving the upcoming United Nations Day ofVesak 2019.

According to the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, 1,650 delegatesfrom 112 countries and territories worldwide have registered to attend the 16thUnited Nations Day of Vesak scheduled for May 12-14 in the northern province ofHa Nam.
TheUN General Assembly on December 15, 1999 recognised the Day of Vesak tocelebrate the thrice-sacred event of the life of the Buddha Gautama and toacknowledge the contributions Buddhism, one of the oldest religions in theworld, has made to humanity.
The UN Day of Vesak was first celebrated in 2001.-VNA
