Hanoi (VNA) - The Asia-AmericaGateway (AAG) submarine cable encountered a technical trouble at 7:00 onOctober 12, losing signal connection with the Hong Kong (China) station, affectingVietnam’s international internet links.

This is the fourth time the cable network wasdisrupted in 2017. The previous incidents occurred in January, February andAugust. The latest interruption on August 27 was fixed on September 26.

Representatives of internet service providerssaid that they have promptly taken back-up plans to address the problem, thusminising effects on the service quality.

The AAG cable, with a designed capacity reaching2T/s, is one of the four intercontinental internet cable systemsof Vietnam. It is used by major local providers, namely FPT Telecom, VNPT,Viettel and SPT.

The AAG cable was put into operation in November2009, directly connecting Southeast Asia and the US. It also linksSoutheast Asia with Europe, Australia and Africa.

However, the system has repeatedly facedtroubles, causing internet disconnections from Vietnam to other countries.-VNA
