Jakarta (VNA) – At least six people died and more than ten others wereinjured as a 6.5-magnitude quake struck off Indonesia’s eastern Maluku provinceon September 26.
According to Indonesia’s national disaster mitigation agency, the victims wereburied under fallen buildings. The quake also damaged many buildings ofuniversities, houses, a mosque, a church, bridges and roads on Maluku’s Ambonisland.
The US Geological Survey said the quake struckabout 37km northeast of Ambon at a depth of 29km.
Indonesia's Meteorology, Climatology and GeophysicsAgency said no tsunami warning wasissued. However, local media reported that hundreds had evacuated to highergrounds.
Last year, a 7.5-magnitude quake and asubsequent tsunami in Palu on Sulawesi island killed more than 2,200 people,with another thousand declared missing./.
