The Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) in Ho Chi Minh City held a ceremony on August 21 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Vietnam-Indonesia ties as well as Indonesia’s 70th Independence Day.
Addressing the event, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Thanh Liem noted that Vietnam and Indonesia have enjoyed effective collaboration in all fields, especially since they set up a strategic partnership in June 3013.
Particularly, political relations between the two countries have grown with strong mutual trust while economic, trade and investment cooperation has been expanded together with affiliations in energy, aviation, culture, education-training and tourism, he said.
Liem stressed that Ho Chi Minh City is keen to foster cooperation with Indonesia, especially in economics and tourism.
Indonesia currently has 16 investment projects in the city with 18.74 million USD in total capital, he noted, adding that last year, trade reached 778 million USD and nearly 500,000 Indonesian tourists visited the city.
Liem also believed that with the positive results of efforts by both sides thus far, collaboration between Ho Chi Minh City and Indonesia will continue to thrive.
Meanwhile, Indonesian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Jean Anes said over the last six decades, Vietnam and Indonesia have shared a deep friendship and efficient cooperation in various fields, especially investment and trade, benefiting both sides.
In 2014, trade between the two countries hit 5.4 billion USD and it is targeted to rise to 10 billion USD in 2018.
He also hoped the two countries would further grow and promote the bilateral friendship and partnership in the future.-VNA
