Vientiane (VNA) – The 28th & 29th Summits of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) kicked off in Vientiane, Laos, on September 6, focusing on efforts in building the ASEAN Community.
Themed “Turning Vision into Reality for a Dynamic ASEAN Community”, the back-to-back summits will run until September 7, with ASEAN leaders set to join a ceremony to launch the Master Plan for ASEAN Connectivity 2025 and the Third Work Plan of the Initiative for ASEAN Integration.
An ASEAN Business Advisory Council is also expected to be introduced during the summit.
Related meetings taking place on September 6-8 include the ASEAN+1 Summit, ASEAN+ 3 Summit, a summit marking ASEAN’s 25-year dialogue partnership with China, and the East Asia Summit (EAS).
First established in 1967 with five founding members, ASEAN now groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam./.
