2.4 bln USD thermal power plant to be built in Quang Tri

An 1,200 MW thermal power plant will be built in central Quang Tri province at a total estimated cost of 2.4 billion USD by a Thai firm.
An 1,200 MW thermal power plant will be built in central Quang Triprovince at a total estimated cost of 2.4 billion USD by a Thai firm.

This forms part of components of an energy complex inQuang Tri, including a thermal power plant and a gas power plant, in abid to ensure power supply serving the development of Vietnam, Laos andThailand.

A document to this effect was signedbetween representatives of Quang Tri province and the Thai company OneAsia Development Thailand in Bangkok on May 22.

At the signingceremony, Chairman of the Quang Tri People’s Committee Nguyen Duc Chinhsaid the development of the energy complex is in line with the Vietnam’senergy development plan through 2020 and the joint statement on energyreleased at the fifth Greater Mekong Sub-region ( GMS) summit inBangkok.

The complex will connect energy and trade among the GMS nations as well as countries in ASEAN, Chinh added.

Thai Deputy Energy Minister Praipol Koomsup highlighted Quang Tri’spotential as a gateway to Vietnam on the East-West economic corridor.

The development of the energy complex in the provincewill facilitate the development of Vietnam, as well as other regionalnations, including Thailand and Laos, he said.

Quang Tri has recently organised numerous promotion activities to draw investment from Thailand.

The localities is now home to some 1,200 domestic and foreigninvestors, including three Thai firms with a total investment of over 2billion USD.-VNA
