2014 – busy year of voluntary activities

A range of practical voluntary activities were carried out nationwide during 2014, contributing to ensuring social security and improving the community life, according to the Steering Committee of the Year of Youth Volunteers 2014.

The activities covered numerous aspects,including sea and island protection, new-style rural area building,environmental protection, public health care, and blood donation, amongothers.

Notably, the public health care recorded remarkableresults, with many young doctors and nurses volunteering to provide freecheck-ups, treatment and medicine for poor people as well as work inremote areas.

Youth unions at all levels intensifiedcommunication campaigns on traffic safety and young volunteers activelyjoined traffic police in ensuring order at intersections where trafficjams and accident often occur.

In addition, the programme “2014Give Strength in Exam Season” drew the participation of nearly 97,700young volunteers who provided assistance for over 1 million ofexaminees.-VNA

ASEAN’s goods, culinary culture promoted in Europe

The Mekong Delta province of Bac Lieu on October 21 signed a cooperation agreement with Uiseong county, Gyeongsangbuk-do province of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on sending local labourers to the RoK to work seasonally under the form of locality-to-locality collaboration between the two countries in the 2023 - 2027 period.

Tien Giang strives to reduce poverty rate to 0.87% this year

The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committees at all levels in the southern province of Tien Giang have collaborated with agencies and organisations to speed up social security programmes, aiming to reduce the province's poverty rate to 0.87% this year, said Vice President of the provincial VFF Committee Huynh Van Hai.

Chinese sick sailor on vessel AMIS STAR provided with first aid
