National and international observers will monitor Cambodia’s generalelection on July 28, said the National Election Committee (NEC) at apress briefing on July 4.
They include 15,885 nationalobservers from domestic associations and non-governmentalorganisations, and 30 international monitors from six internationalinstitutions and foreign embassies.
These numbers may changeas the deadlines for the registration of national and internationalobservers are July 18 and 25 respectively.
NEC said that 9.6million people have registered to vote in the election for the 123-seatparliament, more than half of them are between the ages of 18 and 35.
Of the eight political parties in the election, there are theruling Cambodian People's Party of Prime Minister Hun Sen, the opposingCambodia National Rescue Party led by self-exiled leader Sam Rainsy,and the royalist FUNCINPEC Party headed by Princess Norodom Arun Rasmey -the youngest daughter of late King Father Norodom Sihanouk.-VNA
