Hanoi (VNA) – The Ministry of Industry and Trade in collaboration with the Ho Chi Minh City Energy Conservation Centre (ECE) on January 22 held an award ceremony to honour 13 winners of the 2014 Competition for Energy Efficient Buildings.
In the retrofitted building category, Continental Hotel in HCM City, which uses measures to save energy consumption, won first prize.
HCM City’s Equatorial Hotel secured second prize while Sunrise Nha Trang Hotel and Vietcombank building in Hanoi earned third prize.
The Sai Gon-Mui Ne Resort was awarded first prize in the tropical building category for its energy efficient architecture and use of environmentally friendly materials. Mui Ne Bay Resort in central Binh Thuan province won second prize.
In the new and existing building category, EVN building of the Electricity of Vietnam and AEON Mall Tan Phu Caledon building received first and second prize, respectively. Third prize was shared by two buildings in Hanoi, Indochina Plaza and Candle Hotel.
Launched in 2007, the annual Competition for Energy Efficient Buildings has so far attracted more than 400 participating buildings in 25 provinces and cities, of which, 119 buildings have won prizes.
Winning entries of the contest will be chosen annually to represent the country at the ASEAN Energy Awards Competition. Since 2007, 11Vietnamese buildings have received prizes at the regional contest.
According to ECE Director Huynh Kim Tien, the competition has helped multiple energy efficient measures enter the construction sector nationwide, contributing to the country’s energy saving programmes.-VNA
