Hanoi (VNA) – The 12th National Press Awards 2017 were announcedat a ceremony in Hanoi on June 21, Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press Day.

The event saw the participation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong;President Tran Dai Quang; Standing member of the Party Central Committee’sSecretariat Tran Quoc Vuong; permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh;Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh; Head of the Party CentralCommittee’s Commission for Information and Education Vo Van Thuong, amongothers.

Speakingat the event, permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh lauded efforts ofjournalists nationwide and expressed his delight that the number of entries tothe National Press Awards 2017 has been highest so far with improved quality.

He asked the presssector to fully grasp, widely and effectively disseminate the Party guidelinesand the State laws and policies, honour outstanding examples in the national patrioticemulation campaign, thus strengthening public trust in the leadership of theParty and the management and direction of the National Assembly and Government,popularising the image of Vietnam and its people, as well as extendingexchanges and cooperation with countries.

The press should be one of the core forces to promptly uncover and fight‘peaceful evolution’ scheme, wrongful and distorted viewpoints against theParty, State and regime, he said.

He noted that the press outletsmust well perform their responsibility to orient public opinion and play anactive part in protecting the national sovereignty over seas and islands andensuring a stable and peaceful environment for development.

They must also pay more attention to themanagement of information on the Internet to orient thoughts or people,particularly the youth, he said.

Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists’Association Thuan Huu said the 12th National Press Awards 2017 continued to be held in a professional mannerwith all journalists’ associations from 63 cities and provinces taking part in.

105 press works in 11 categories for printednewspaper, radio and television programmes, online newspaper, and press photosreceived awards.

The winning works at the 12th National Press Awards 2017 include eight Aprizes, 25 B prizes, 43 C prizes and 29 consolation prizes.

Journalists from the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) got several prizes, including atop award by a group of authors from Vietnamplus e-newspaper with the work“Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s visit to the US: Shaping framework fordiverse multilateral cooperation”. -VNA
